Thanks for the responses. I think things are going to get difficult for them with the progressively weaker argument for 1914, and the waning interest in it. I doubt that most people give a lot of thought to WW1 these days. I don't think it has the emotional impact as an event that it did years ago.
And yeah, Headmath, if the 144,000 were sealed in 1935, I would like to know why there are brothers on the Governing Body who are supposedly of the annointed, who are in their mid 50's.

You know what I don't get? What is the big deal with the WTS about 1914 anyway? It wasn't their date to begin with. They got it from the Millerites/Second Advendtists. What the WTS said would happen didn't happen. They called for the end of the world. What happened was the start of a big conventional war that ended a few years later. That's kind of interesting, but you could argue that WWII was a bigger deal in history, with the advent of nuclear weapons. They didn't predict that. And the whole "beast that was, but is not, but is thing" - come on. If you were around during WWII, you couldn't have predicted that after that war world leaders would take another shot at the League of Nations in an effort to prevent another large scale war? Every other date they have hyped has borne nothing - 1925, 1975, etc. We're supposed to believe that all kinds of things are happening, but they are invisible to us. Yeah, right. So they were wrong about a date that wasn't theirs to begin with. Big deal. How am I supposed to connect the dots between that and "Now I must do everything they say"?
i am angry because my adult children who are active jw's think i should be dead or suffer for not being a witness and i supported them comfortably and they shunned me and show hate i am sad and probably won't do the chemo thing and just let nature take its course.
any ideas?

Well, it's up to you of course. But it sounds like the surgery went well (other thread). I would do the chemo thing. Look at it this way. Witnesses always hope we will come back to the org. We can always hope they will leave the org. I hate to admit it, but I shunned my sister when she left until I realized she was right. I apologized to her for that, and she accepted my apology.
imagine, you go to bed and start dreaming.

I haven't tried this in awhile, but I remember trying it years ago after reading about lucid dreams in a science magazine. I was having a dream about being at work and everything was going wrong. I remember that after awhile I thought "This is rediculous. This many things couldn't possibly go wrong all at the same time. This must be a dream. I'm going to prove it by opening my eyes." And I did. It was the weirdest feeling, because in the dream I was at work in a bright, white room. Of course, in reality, it was the middle of the night. So when I opened my eyes, the whole room faded to black.

Earthtone - I agree with you that sprituality doesn't have to be complicated. My wife said something to me awhile ago when we were out for a walk that made sense . She said "look, you're making it too hard. You're looking for some bolt of lightning to shoot out of the sky and show you which direction to go. It's not gonna happen that way. It's more subtle. It's watching a flock of geese on a beautiful day. Or listening to a robin sing. It's appreciation for the simple things". That gave me a different perspective.

I understand where you're coming from. But I don't want to "throw the baby out with the bath water" so to speak. I've talked with other people and gotten other views of why Jesus came, what is the nature of God, etc. They are much more reasonable views than the dogma from the WTS. I don't want to close any doors just yet. I don't think I'll ever feel comfortable in an organized religion at this point, though.
everyone has a song that reminds them of a particular moment in their lives, happy or sad or sometimes indifferent.
its only that when you hear that song it takes you back even catching you off guard and suddenly your back in high school or remembering someone you loved and lost.

Concentrate on displaying the fruitages of the spirit (without the Watchtower dogma). See where things go from there.
when scared jws even think about leaving the organization, they often wonder where they'll go to instead.......any responses?
